The Caveau des Millésimes

A thrilling experience.

The Ackerman cellars are dug into the tuffeau limestone.
This porous rock is perfect for producing Fines Bulles wines. It is also the ideal environment in which to keep top-quality wines for decades because of the humid air and constant temperature.
The descendants of Jean Baptiste Ackerman realised this only too well. In order to allow future generations to experience the finest vintages, they preserved the most exceptional vintages in one part of the cellars...
Discovering this treasure today is a truly thrilling experience, whether or not you are a wine buff. The place has a very special atmosphere. The bottles, living proof of a century of history, bear the marks of time, and each tells its own story. Vouvray "le Mont" 1945, an historic year for France but also for its wines, Coteaux du Layon 1959, and also the wines of 1947, the vintage of the century, and the oldest vintages dating back to 1928! Most of these wines are semi-sweet as they are better suited to long ageing, during which the aromas and colour change. An amber colour and an aroma of honey and spice are fairly characteristic of these vintage wines.

The pleasure of discovering and tasting vintage wines is unique.
So, today we continue to keep the wines from the best years. And the mystery once again begins: how will the 1990 or 2003 Coteaux du Layon or even a 1998 Chardonnay develop…? Only the future will tell.
